REPUBLIC MAN WINS JOHN DEERE TROPHY

A REPUBLIC OF IRELAND man has been named the top student on an engineering course at Harper Adams University College, Shropshire.

Paraic McCarthy, 21, from Borris, in County Carlow, was awarded the 2003 John Deere Trophy last month in recognition of his achievements.

The John Deere Trophy is awarded annually to the top student on the final year of the HND Agricultural Engineering course. Paraic received his award from Mark Smith, Regional Sales Representative of John Deere, during a special Graduation Day ceremony held at Harper Adams on September 19.

Judges said Paraic had produced good work over his time at Harper Adams and was an excellent ambassador and representative of the University College during his placement year with Tanco Automap Ltd, in Eire. Paraic received ‘distinction’ grades for his level of employability and for his insight into the business.

In addition, Paraic was presented with the 2002 Wrekin Branch – Institution of Agricultural Engineers Award. Phil Metcalf, Chairman, presented Paraic with this award, which he had been unable to collect when it was first awarded last year.
